I was thinking about Jimmy T. one night when the idea for this book popped into my head like a divine inspiration. I got excited! I figured I could show the guy I still love him as well as make good on some of the tremendous debt I feel I owe him.
Now I can just see Jimmy T. reading this, wondering, "WHAT debt?" Lots of things come to mind but three main things are:
1) the great deal I got on the canoe;
2) paying for the float plane into Fifth St. John’s Pond; and,
3) putting up with my too-often on-the-rag self on that first Machias River trip. I’m still ashamed of myself when I recall some of the behavior I exhibited on that trip.
The casual reader may find some of the passages in this book somewhat crude. No apologies. I’ve never been accused of being overly refined.
Jim, they say paybacks are a mother, but I hope you find this one enjoyable. I’ve recalled things as well as my brain-cell depleted memory could. My biggest hope is that I can do another similar book in the future, with the pictures of us taken after today.
About this book-
The stories contained herein are all true. If memory serves (never reliable any more) our first trip to Maine was in 1976, the last in 1980. I would so love to go again...
